The 283/220 HP single 4-barrel engine bears the correct 1957 block casting number with a date code of April 25, 1957, well before the car’s May 1957 production date. Accented with silver coves, this 1957 Corvette sports a contrasting red interior to dramatic effect, heightened by an auxiliary hardtop and spinner wheel covers over wide whitewall tires. Looking up at the motor its real clean Chevy Orange, it has a new flywheel cover. As above, new or substantially different options are represented by darker grey background, and options with. Color choices increased from six to seven, including the beautiful one-year-only Arctic Blue that adorns this colorful example. Chevrolet released several new factory options for 1957, including fuel injection, dual-quad carburetors with high-lift cam, close-ratio transmission, several limited-slip differential choices, and a padded dash. To handle that increase and satisfy demand from racing customers, engineers introduced the first optional 4-speed manual transmission for the Corvette, the all-synchromesh Borg Warner 4-speed. In 1957, Corvette performance took another leap forward when the 265 was bored out to 283 CI, increasing baseline power to 220 HP and 283 HP with Chevrolet’s all-new Rochester fuel injection. The manual four-speed was a heavy-duty unit with a stump-puller low gear it wasn't the sort of performance four. The engine, transmission, and carburetors all are correct, so you’re getting the original setup. It works with a 2-speed Power Glide automatic transmission to send power to the 3.7 rear with posi-traction. The truck Hydra-Matic was the same unit used by Cadillac and Oldsmobile. The exceptional factory equipment continues with a 283ci 4 barrel V8 with 245-horsepower on tap. After developing and testing a new cam, Arkus-Duntov set the two-way flying-mile record at Daytona at just over 150 MPH, setting the stage for a class win at that year’s 12 Hours of Sebring that gave Chevrolet’s marketing team a fortune in free publicity. The only automatic transmission offered in 1955-1957 Chevrolet light duty trucks was GM's four-speed Hydra-Matic, and it was available with the six and the V-8.

Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov reworked the Corvette’s front and rear suspension to improve high-speed handling, and a rise in compression gave the 265 CI V-8 a full 210 HP in standard tune. In 1956, Chevrolet unveiled a redesigned Corvette with a stylish body, such amenities as exterior door handles and roll-up side windows, and options that included power steering, power windows and a power soft top. The first halting steps came in 1955 with the introduction of the 265/195 HP small-block V-8 to the Chevrolet lineup. After its first four years as a boulevard cruiser, in 1957, Corvette finally established its credentials as a genuine high-performance sports car. And as with most cars from the 50s, there was a plethora of options.
